The Girl and The Sea: MSFW DAY 1 - David Jones Spring Racewear Preview

Well done Melbourne. Well done.
The official MSFW festivities kicked off today with the David Jones Spring Racewear preview. Hosts Emma Freedman, David Jones Racewear Ambassador, and Jesinta Campbell, 2012 BMW Caulfield Cup Carnival Fashion and Social Ambassador, are always a delight, brining the right mix of laughter and genuine racewear knowledge to the runway. Not exactly hard on the eyes, either.

By the looks of things, that little neon trend isn't going anywhere soon... or at least not until the end of the Cup Carnival... so, November. Jesinta and Emma's tip for Melbourne Cup Day was COLOUR COLOUR COLOUR. And "work it" (direct quote). With that in mind, my pick would have to be Sam Harris' opening number- a divine white shift dress with orange accents and a matching tangerine cropped blazer. I love Willow for their clean lines and creative use of texture, and they really never disappoint.

Wearing colour on Derby Day is guaranteed to make you lose at least 4 racewear-concious friends (best friend, best gay friend, best frenemy and possibly a parent). Don't feel as though you HAVE to wear a dress- a beautiful tailored suit or a playsuit will keep you climate ready regardless of the forecase. My Derby Day winner would be Lover's incredible lace-detailed full length playsuit (see photos below). Lover are synonymous with incredibly feminine and intricate lacework, and this playsuit toughens up a traditionally "girly" texture.
Can someone please lend me some money? And by lend I mean give.
